Overview

Founded in 1972, ActionAid has been fighting poverty worldwide for over 30 years.  In 2003, ActionAid’s work reached almost 13 million people in Africa, Asia and the Americas.  ActionAid enthusiastically embrace new technology to streamline its fundraising processes and to appeal to new donors in a novel way.   

Problem

The charity required a solution that they could use at festivals and events where they could capture new donor’s information and photographs in order to compile a petition to send to the UK Government.

eSAY’s Solution

eSAY delivered a Windows-based solution operating on PDAs.  Each PDA was installed with a simple digital form that was easily completed.  Using the camera functionality photographs were added to the form and uploaded in real-time to the charity’s website, whilst simultaneously an email was sent to the new member.  The email included a greeting and a link to the charity’s website where the photographs could be viewed thus driving website traffic. 

Results and Benefits

The technology delivered immediate benefits for the charity, as the data collected from the festivals was not only abundant, due to the novelty of members having their pictures taken at festivals, but accurate too.  The elimination of paper processes and the administration of these was instant, and the volunteers found that the adoption of the technology was straightforward; ultimately the processes were efficiently managed which increased the quality perception of the brand.  The system allowed ActionAid to maximise the first point of contact with donors.
